Nanny Salary SurveyEach year, the International Nanny Association conducts a Nanny Salary and Benefits survey of nannies across the country. Over 800 nannies responded to the survey for the 2013 report, and we have summarized key results. We find this to be an excellent opportunity for families to see how their compensation package ranks against national results.

General demographics of the nanny survey respondents:

  • 70% are full-time
  • 90% live outside the employer’s home
  • 71% have 5+ years  of experience
  • 77% care for one (30%) or two children (47%)
  • 76% have been with their employer for less than 3 years; 43% less than one year
  • 35% have completed their bachelor’s degree or advanced degree (master’s or Ph.D.)

Salary and benefits results

  • The average hourly rate is $17.44/hour
  • 66% have paid holidays
  • 64% have paid vacation days (typical was 2+ weeks)
  • 47% get sick days
  • 13% receive full health insurance premiums; 10.7% receive partial health insurance contributions
  • 35% receive reimbursement for using their personal vehicle; 31% use an employer-supplied vehicle
  • 68% are paid when the employer does not require the nanny to work (e.g., employer vacation that does not correspond with the nanny’s vacation)
  • Average holiday bonus amount: $324
